FashionSister: Indian Bridal Jewellery
I'm currently working on a moving image project partly inspired by deities and because of this i've had to beg/borrow/buy lots of items to complete a look that is very similar to Indian bridal wear. In amongst these items was some Indian bridal jewellery that i bought second hand on ebay for the ridiculously low price of £3.49. In the set was a beautiful necklace, earrings and a tikka. Since they've arrived i haven't taken them off and have found a surprising affinity with the ridiculous set. FashionBrother is jealous, especially of the necklace which i have taken to wearing on my head. This is me, looking slightly demonic, in necklace and earrings (also my red jumper i talked about earlier in the week). When get round to shooting i will post some images of the jewels in action.

FashionBrother: Citrus
Today I learned yet another vital life lesson. Never Buy citrus fruit in the winter. Had I not underestimated the weight of a single orange, I probably wouldn't have been faced with the 5 euro price tag for three small satsumas... Too scared to confront the grocer, I accepted that it was one of those things that has to happen to you at least once, so that you never do it again. They'd better bloody be the three juiciest satsumas in the world.
Anyway! Stella McCartney SS 11, prime example of the use of citrus. This is a very literal translation of citrus fruit to fashion. I'm not entirely convinced that photo printed fabrics stand very well on their own, I always find that there is something vital missing. However, adding the right accessories to the outfit (I'd add a fine white silk scarf over the head to block out the sun) would make this a great piece to wear during the summer.
Perhaps I just need to accept that citrus isn't for everybody, but if it is something you have been shying away from because you are too worried, gather the courage to give it a go this summer because you might amaze yourself with the results you get. I didn't see enough citrus in 2011 so I'm expecting it in 2012!

The guilty culprits |
Anyway, the satsuma incident got me thinking about the popularity of citrus colours in fashion. When faced with yellow, orange or pamplemousse red, even the most fashionable of people tend to turn their noses up at the idea of such colours, but why? Are they to scared that the colour will dominate them? I firmly believe that an outfit will only wear you if you allow it to and the simplest thing, such as making your hair that little bit more complex, or walking with slightly better posture are the kinds of small thing that will help you to outshine what you are wearing. What I love about citrus colours is the way they compliment skin tone. Perhaps it is totally psychological and I am just associating the strong colors with vitamin c and healthiness, but there must be some color theory reasoning behind the way that yellow and particularly orange seems to give that healthy "glow". I hate the term "healthy glow" because for me it conjures up distasteful images of glitter and sequins. And glitter and sequins make me think of those cups that many of us will have had as kids, with various trinkets suspended in water, trapped between the inner and outer walls of the cup, so that when you took a drink all of the little objects (usually pink fairies or cartoon characters) would dance around your lips. I don't know why they haunt me...

FashionSister: Colour is 'my' new black?
So I wear a lot of black and currently, more than ever before, I find myself dressed head to toe in an all black ensemble. I don't ever intend to do it it just seems to happen and i usually notice when stood at the bus stop next to my multicoloured housemates that i look somewhat dreary. Do I blame it on January? The constant greyness of the weather and the relentless cold. Not to mention all the excess christmas weight that needs to be oh so carefully hidden under swarths of black fabric. Perhaps, or perhaps i have just become boring and now play it too safe. Either way it HAS to change. A friend recently had a conversation with my about my new habit she commented, "yes black is terribly chic, but you have plenty of time to be chic when you're over 35 and can't get away with 'it' any more." Another friend today commented "this whole all black gothic grunge thing isn't really sitting with you is it?" SO, i bought something RED, bright pillar box red and i intend to wear it with pride, in fact i wore it today and have already had multiple comments on how healthy i was looking (may i add that i haven't had a single compliment the whole way through my "gothic grunge" phase). So its down with black and in with colour. I'll keep you posted on my transformation from dreary caterpillar into technicolor butterfly, every swatch at a time.

FashionBrother: Cold Paris
Paris is FREEZING. And when i say freezing, I dont meen the sort of freezing that makes you shiver and apply an extra layer of clothing. I mean the sort of cold that hammers your bones and makes you seek shelter in the nearest superheated coffee shop. Luckily with my heater on "Hi", I should survive what is going to be a freezing night. Thankfully I dont have a car, so the expected snow (Expect a generic snow post) shouldnt hinder me going out tomorrow.
I managed to take a quick walk in The Marais today before my appointment to set up my internet at home. It was the first time I had managed to take a totally uninterupted walk around my new neighbourhood and take a couple of photographs. Initially i was planning on taking some street style images, but I soon realised that unless you are actually going to ask the person to take their photo, your chances of a decent shot are pretty limited... I will pluck up the courage eventually.
Paris constantly offers new images and the harder you look, the more you find. I have been here little more than a week, so who knows what living here has to offer. Hopefully FashionSister will post soon or this will just end up as the chronicles of me...

FashionBrother: Bank stress and Emmaus Paris
When I look back on my expectations for the day, I cant say I'd visualised myself skipping through Boulevard Saint Germain at 12:30 having just opened a bank account. Luckily for me the long hard struggle to open a bank account ended today and I am now a proud member of Credit Mutuel. The process took less than 15 minutes to finish and I can't believe I wasted so much energy trying to befriend other banks...
In other news, I managed to make it to one of the Emmaus shops today and this is primarily what I'm going to be writing about. Emmaus is a charity which works to combat poverty and homelessness and they have a great number of these "Charity shops" all over France and in the UK. The prices are very reasonable and you can purchase a decent amount of stuff for very little money. I'm personally furnishing an entire studio flat, so a place like Emmaus is total gold dust when it comes to picking up all the essentials and it comes in at about 1/20th of the price. So, lets take a look at what I bought. I will probably be there again tomorrow, buying all of the stuff that I couldn't carry. There is also an Emmaus in the south that is open only on Saturdays, so no doubt I'll be there too looking for the perfect table!

{1}. (From left to right) My new side table (20 euros) that fits perfectly next to my sofa. I shoved some stuff on it so you could get an idea of how it might look. {2}. Red and green tartan blanket. Super king size and perfect for tonight as it is going to be -9 degrees here. (4€) {3}. The chair with a broken seat that I found near a bin in the street. I never say no to freebies, particularly if it stops it from going to the dump and I think I can fix the seat and make a nice cushion for it. (Priceless) {4}. White lace table cloth, very well made and with a vertical floral pattern. I was very proud of this find. (4€) {5}. A red metal stand for washed dishes (0.50€), a glass jar with a metal lid, I'm not sure what it is, but I am going to use it for my cutlery (0.50€), a plastic/glass juice jug which I love because it is the jug I picture when I imagine the ideal juice jug. Don't ask me why (1.50€) {6}. Unmentioned objects from the final image are from the Monoprix home sale. I picked up the bowls for a euro each or something and the three sauce pots were 1.50€. The tea towel was full price (grumble) but I couldn't find one that I remotely liked in the sale so I forked out...
Overall I am stupidly happy with the day and Paris has once again delivered me with a great experience. not only did I pay very little, I also contributed to the hammaus charity and I stopped all of this second hand gold getting thrown into landfill! I feel like a bloody saint! And so could you too!
Not very fashion related but interior design is a question of taste too! (Poor excuse). Fashion stuff to come soon when i am all sorted in the apartment and my life settles down a little bit! I have to apply for internet and a phone contract tomorrow. I have a feeling it is going to be another mission.

FashionSister: An Introduction.
I'm FashionSister, female, living in London. Older than FashionBrother and studying fashion styling and photography. I always find this kind of post difficult to write but i'm sure the others will come more naturally as i won't be talking about myself. FashionBrother : Hello!
I'm Fashion Brother, the male, Paris dwelling, first part of the FashionBrotherFashionSister blog. I've always fancied the idea of blogging my feelings about the fashion industry and when my sister approached me with the proposal of a blog-collaboration i decided to defeat my lack of self dedication and seize the day. I'm going to be updating frequently along with FashionSister and together we should create quite a large volume of material to read here on the blog. Until next time.
